In Nate's class they take turns reading a favorite story at the end of the day. Nate picked Bear Wants More, and we all went to hear him. He did a great job and voled reading it and then showing each page to his class.

Nate's Christmas Concert
Like last year, we didn't get there quite early enough to get a good seat, but we could still see him OK and he was quite a singer this year. Very cute!

Soccer

This year Nate and Bay are on the same soccer team! It has been so much fun. It's Bailey's first time playing and she just loves it. Nate has improved so much from last year and tries so hard. He wants to score a goal so bad, but so far has just gotten really close. Bailey is #9 and Nate is #19 and they are the Blue Dragons. Nate was on the Blue Dragons last year and just by chance has 2 other kids from last year's team with him again. They are so excited to be on the same team as their best friend Alex.

Another Builder in the Family
Nate loves to build with his Lincoln Logs and is so proud of his little villages. He wants to be a builder like his dad and asks when Black Rock is going to start building homes. For those who don't know, Matt got his contractor's licence and we started our own business, it's just that the market isn't great right now so Nate's wondering why he and his dad aren't building any houses. Hopefully soon.

First Day of 1st Grade
Nate started 1st grade on August 11th. He was so excited to start school this year! He knew lots of kids in his class already (several from the ward, his kindergarten class, and 2 from his soccer team) and that seemed to help a lot. He's excited about his new teacher, Ms. Franco. They have a hamster and a turtle in their class and that was a huge hit at Meet the Teacher Night. He's learning so much already and has come out of his shell a lot since kindergarten. Although no smile, we have to have the traditional bench photo.

1st lost tooth!
We were very excited this morning when Nate lost his tooth during breakfast. It has been loose for a couple weeks and he really wanted to lose it before the last day of school so he could wear the cool necklace his kindergarten teacher has for them. Just yesterday he decided he was ready to tie a string and yank it out, but we were in a hurry and didn't get a chance. I was glad it came out on it's own today! We drove to Matt's subdivision before school so we could get the camera and take a picture of his new smile. You can't see it with his regular smile, so he had to do this under bite. I heard Bailey telling her friend Alex that Nate got a new face! Congrats Nate! What's the going rate for a tooth anyway?

Tee-Ball
Nate has started tee-ball and loves it. Matt's one of his coaches along with one of our friends. I haven't gotten any pictures of him in full uniform as the camera has needed batteries, but this is his hat. Their team mascot is the Blue Claws! Funny, huh? He had a blast at his first game and Bay brought her pom poms! It ended with snow cones and that was probably the best part! We'll get some good pics soon!

Leprechaun Trap!
Nate's homework assignment last week was to make a leprechaun trap. Matt and Nate stayed up late making this, using wood and a self closing hinge. We also painted some rocks gold for bait. A stick holds the door open and when it's moved, the door slams shut. They drilled holes so that the leprechaun can breathe and made a little rope handle. They had so much fun doing it.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
This past week Nate's school celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. They had different themes each day to go along with books. Nate was sick one day and his teacher was gone 2 days, so this was the only day we really did it. This was "If I ran the Circus" and they were supposed to dress as clowns or in mismatched clothes. When we got to Nate's school and saw that no one was really dressed up I was worried that he would be embarrassed, but he was just excited to jump out of the car and get his glasses on. I went to volunteer later that morning and ran into Nate's teacher before him and asked if he was embarrassed. She said no, that he was loving it and he even got to have his picture taken for the yearbook! I was glad to hear it because he can be so dang shy and I didn't want this to scar him for life. He didn't seem to mind the attention like he normally does, wanting to crawl under his desk every time someone looks at him.

Kindergarten Concert
We didn't get any pictures of the actual concert because we were too far back, but Nate's class sang Feliz Navidad, All I want for Christmas is a Hippopotamus, and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. It was cute. We took these afterward. Nate and his teacher, Mrs. Connelly.
